About Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) is the world's largest livestock exhibition and rodeo, held annually in Houston, Texas. Established in 1932, the event has grown into a 20-day extravaganza that celebrates Western heritage, promotes agriculture, and supports Texas youth through educational scholarships.
The 2025 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is scheduled to take place from March 4 to March 23 at NRG Park in Houston. The event features a diverse array of activities, including:
- Rodeo Competitions: Sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), the rodeo showcases top cowboys and cowgirls competing in events such as bull riding, barrel racing, and steer wrestling. The 2024 rodeo attracted 360 competitors and awarded nearly $2.2 million in prize money.
- Concerts: Each evening, the rodeo is followed by performances from major musical acts spanning various genres. In 2024, artists like Jelly Roll, the Jonas Brothers, and Nickelback graced the stage, drawing large crowds.
- World's Championship Bar-B-Que Contest: Held the weekend before the main event, this contest features over 250 teams competing in categories like brisket, chicken, and ribs. It is one of the largest barbecue cook-offs in the U.S.
- Carnival and Midway: The grounds host a carnival with over 80 rides, including the La Grande XL Ferris wheel, and a variety of games and attractions suitable for all ages.
- Educational Exhibits: AgVenture, located in the NRG Center, offers interactive displays about agriculture, including live animal exhibits and educational programs for schoolchildren.
In addition to entertainment, HLSR is committed to supporting Texas youth through educational scholarships. Since its inception, the organization has awarded over $630 million to students across the state.
