About Houston Dynamo FC

Houston Dynamo FC is a professional soccer club based in Houston, Texas, competing in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Western Conference. Established on December 15, 2005, the club was formed following the relocation of the San Jose Earthquakes' players and staff to Houston after the 2005 season.

The team played its inaugural match on April 2, 2006, at Robertson Stadium, defeating the Colorado Rapids 5–2. In 2012, the Dynamo moved to Shell Energy Stadium, a soccer-specific venue located in East Downtown Houston. This 20,656-seat stadium offers an intimate atmosphere for fans and has been the team's home ever since.

Achievements

The club has a storied history, securing the MLS Cup in its first two seasons (2006 and 2007) and winning the U.S. Open Cup in 2018 and 2023.

In 2023, under head coach Ben Olsen, the Dynamo achieved a 14-11-9 record, marking their first MLS Cup Playoffs appearance in five seasons and advancing to the Western Conference Final.

Recent Signings

  • February 2025: Signed midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro to a one-year deal with an option for 2026. Lodeiro is a two-time MLS champion and formerly played for the Seattle Sounders and Orlando City.
  • April 2025: Re-signed veteran defender Erik Sviatchenko through the 2026 season, with a club option for 2027. Sviatchenko has strengthened the team's defense since joining in March 2023.
  • July 2025: Extended midfielder Jack McGlynn's contract through 2028, with an option for 2029. McGlynn has recorded three goals and five assists in 18 matches since his acquisition from the Philadelphia Union.

The Dynamo's primary office and training facility are located at Houston Sports Park, approximately 10 miles south of Shell Energy Stadium.
