The Houston Area Women's Center (HAWC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and sex trafficking in the Houston area. Established in 1977, HAWC has been a beacon of hope for countless women, children, and families. Crisis Response Services

HAWC operates a 24/7 crisis hotline, providing immediate, confidential assistance to those in need. The hotline is staffed by trained professionals who offer support, safety planning, and referrals to appropriate services. Recognizing the diverse needs of the community, HAWC's hotline accommodates multiple languages. It is also accessible to individuals with hearing impairments through a language line.

Emergency Shelter and Housing

For survivors requiring immediate safety, HAWC offers emergency shelter with the capacity to house up to 125 individuals. The shelter provides private rooms, communal living spaces, and essential services to ensure a secure environment.

In response to increasing demand, HAWC is expanding its facilities to triple its bed capacity. This expansion aims to accommodate up to 360 survivors upon completion in early 2025.

Counseling and Support Services

HAWC offers individual and group counseling for adults and children, addressing the emotional and psychological impacts of trauma. Specialized services include children's court services, supporting young survivors navigating the legal system. Additionally, HAWC provides on-call hospital accompaniment for survivors of domestic and sexual assault, ensuring support during medical examinations and legal proceedings.
