Programs and Services
HOPE Services Hawaii offers a range of programs designed to prevent and address homelessness:
- Homeless Prevention & Diversion: Assisting individuals who have received eviction notices to prevent homelessness.
- Homeless Outreach Programs: Engaging with and serving those living on the streets.
- Emergency Shelter: Providing shelter for families, singles, couples, veterans, and seniors.
- Housing: Assisting individuals and families in securing permanent housing.
- Veterans' Services: Offering shelter and other programs tailored for veterans and their families.
- Disaster Relief: Providing assistance to those impacted by disasters.
- Case Management: Offering shelter, family, and community-based case management services.
One of their key initiatives is the Rapid Re-Housing program, which provides short-term financial assistance with rent and utilities, security and utility deposits, case management services, housing search support, and Renter’s Education Classes.
This program aims to help individuals and families obtain permanent housing as quickly as possible, using a Housing First approach that eliminates barriers such as sobriety requirements.
Another significant program is Permanent Supportive Housing, offering long-term affordable housing assistance and case management for families and individuals with the greatest needs.
Participants must meet the criteria for Chronic Homelessness, meaning they've been homeless for more than a year and have a documented disability. The program uses the Housing First approach, allowing the organization to eliminate strict eligibility requirements and focus on meeting basic needs first.
