Honest Weight Food Co-op, established in 1976, is a member-owned and operated consumer cooperative dedicated to providing the community with affordable, high-quality natural foods and products for healthy living. Open to the public seven days a week, the Co-op offers an extensive selection of local and organic produce, groceries, and specialty items.

Product and Service Offerings

• Bulk Foods: The Co-op features an impressive bulk department with over 900 items, including pantry staples like beans, nuts, dried fruits, pastas, honey, coffees, and grains. Specialty ingredients such as unusual herbs and spices, seaweeds, gluten-free flours, and flavored salts are also available. This promotes less waste and lower costs for customers.
• Wellness and Body Care: A dedicated section offers vitamins, supplements, herbal remedies, all-natural sunscreen, and bath and beauty products free from parabens and phthalates. Many products are locally sourced, some crafted by Honest Weight member-owners.
• Deli and Prepared Foods: The full-service deli provides a daily hot bar, fresh salad bar, all-organic juice bar, fair-trade coffee bar, made-to-order sandwiches, sliced meats and cheeses, and ready-to-eat salads and on-the-go meals, including hot, house-brined rotisserie chickens.
• Cheese and Specialty Foods: The Cheese and Specialty Foods Department boasts the area's finest selection of domestic artisan and international cheeses, cured meats, specialty olive oils, and other fine goods.
• Produce: An unbeatable selection of fresh, local, and organic produce is available year-round, with clear labeling indicating the point of origin and growing method for each product.
• Meat and Seafood: The Co-op offers local, naturally raised meats, including beef, lamb, chicken, turkey, and pork, as well as exotic meats like elk, rabbit, and alligator. Wild and sustainably grown fresh and frozen seafood are also stocked.
• Beer and Cider: A large selection of craft beer and cider is available, featuring brews from Albany and around the world, including organic and gluten-free options.
• Classes and Events: The Co-op offers free classes, workshops, and one-on-one wellness sessions in their Teaching Kitchen and Community Room. The Outreach team provides nutrition education for kids and adults in area schools, libraries, and community organizations.

Honest Weight operates with a triple bottom line: People, Planet, Profit. The Co-op is committed to promoting more equitable, participatory, and ecologically sustainable ways of living.

They donate five percent of their net profits annually to local non-profit organizations and strive to reduce waste through various initiatives, including composting and recycling programs.
