HILLCREST COUNTRY CLUB

Hillcrest Country Club, located at 10000 West Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles, California, is a prestigious private club that has been serving its members since 1920. Established by Samuel M. Newmark, Louis Isaacs, Karl Triest, and Joseph Y. Baruh, the club was founded to provide a welcoming environment for the Jewish community. This was at a time when other elite social clubs in the city excluded Jewish members.

The club's facilities include an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, an Olympic-size swimming pool, and a clubhouse offering dining and meeting spaces. The golf course, originally designed by Willie Watson, underwent a significant renovation in 2019 by renowned architect Kyle Phillips. He introduced six new holes and a six-acre practice facility. This redesign has been praised for enhancing the course's playability and aesthetics.

Over the decades, Hillcrest has been a gathering place for numerous notable figures, particularly from the entertainment industry. Members have included comedians such as Jack Benny, Milton Berle, and Groucho Marx, as well as actors like Jack Lemmon and Sidney Poitier. The club's "Round Table" tradition, where comedians and entertainers would meet regularly, became a cherished aspect of its social life.
