About Hertz
Hertz is a leading global vehicle rental company, operating under the Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty, and Firefly brands. It has a presence in over 160 countries with a vast network of rental locations. The company includes more than 1,600 airport locations in the U.S. and over 1,300 internationally.
Founded in 1918 by Walter L. Jacobs, Hertz has a rich history of innovation in the car rental industry. It introduced the first rental car charge card in 1926 and opened the first airport rental facility at Chicago's Midway Airport in 1932. By 1955, Hertz became the first rental company with 1,000 locations.
In recent years, Hertz has focused on enhancing the customer experience with technological advancements. The Hertz Gold Plus Rewards® program allows members to bypass counters and proceed directly to their vehicles. The company also offers specialty collections including the Dream, Fun, and Green Collections to meet diverse customer needs.
Hertz's commitment to sustainability is demonstrated by incorporating electric vehicles (EVs) into its fleet. In October 2021, the company made a significant investment in EVs, including a large order of Tesla Model 3 sedans. However, challenges like higher maintenance costs and lower resale values have led to reassessment of its EV strategy.
