About hawai'i habitat
Hawai'i Habitat is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing in Hawai'i by constructing, rehabilitating, and preserving homes for low-income families. It serves as the state support organization for Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Hawai'i.
The organization provides education, technical assistance, and resources to empower local affiliates in their mission to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.
Local Affiliates
Hawai'i Habitat collaborates with five local Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the Hawaiian Islands:
- Hawai'i Island Habitat for Humanity: Serves residents of Hawai'i Island, focusing on affordable housing solutions for families in need.
- Honolulu Habitat for Humanity: Operates on the island of O'ahu, excluding areas served by Habitat for Humanity Leeward O'ahu, building homes and communities for low-income families.
- Habitat for Humanity Leeward O'ahu: Serves residents leeward of Kunia Road on O'ahu, providing affordable housing solutions.
- Habitat for Humanity Maui: Serves the islands of Maui and Lanai, focusing on building homes and communities for low-income families.
- Kauai Habitat for Humanity: Serves residents of the County of Kauai, providing affordable housing solutions to families.
Affiliate Operations
Each affiliate operates independently and coordinates all aspects of a Habitat for Humanity home, including:
- Fundraising
- Building
- Partner family selection
- Mortgage servicing
They also run and own Habitat ReStores, which accept donations and sell home improvement items to the public at discounted prices.
