About Harveys Retail Stores

Harveys Supermarkets is a longstanding American grocery chain that has been serving communities in Florida and Georgia for nearly a century. Established in 1924 by J.M. and Iris Harvey in Nashville, Georgia, the company has grown from a single store to a network of supermarkets dedicated to providing quality products and services to its customers.

Over the years, Harveys has undergone several transformations to meet the evolving needs of its clientele. In 2003, the chain was acquired by Delhaize Group, a global food retailer. This led to the integration of Harveys with sister chains like Food Lion, streamlining operations such as procurement, distribution, and back-office functions.

In 2018, Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Harveys, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, resulting in the closure of several stores. Later that year, the company emerged from bankruptcy with a focus on remodeling existing stores and enhancing customer experiences.

In August 2023, Aldi, the German supermarket chain, announced plans to acquire approximately 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys supermarkets across the southern United States. Some stores retained the Harveys brand while others were converted to Aldi's format.

By March 2024, Aldi completed the purchase of Harveys Supermarkets, marking a significant shift in ownership and operational structure. Subsequently, in February 2025, a consortium of private investors, led by Anthony Hucker, CEO of Southeastern Grocers, and C&S Wholesale Grocers, acquired approximately 170 stores from Aldi.

This move allowed Harveys to regain a portion of its former operations, with plans to continue serving communities in Florida and Georgia.
