History and Expansion

The journey of Flowerama began with the Frink brothers' greenhouse operations, which expanded to include a second 60,000-square-foot facility in Waterloo, Iowa, in 1965. Recognizing the need for stable retail outlets, Flowerama introduced the Mobile Merchandiser in 1967—a portable trailer offering a 24' by 32' sales and display area at high-traffic sites like supermarkets and shopping centers.

This innovation led to the opening of company-owned stores in regional shopping malls in Iowa and Minnesota in 1970, providing a comfortable, year-round environment for customers. The success of these stores paved the way for franchising in 1972, allowing Flowerama to expand its reach. In 1986, the company transitioned to freestanding floral centers, marking a significant shift in its retail strategy. By 2011, Flowerama became part of the 1-800-Flowers Retail, Inc. family, joining the largest floral franchise organization in the world.
