EAST BATON ROUGE COUNCIL ON AGING

The East Baton Rouge Council on Aging (EBRCOA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for seniors aged 60 and over in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana. Established in 1973, EBRCOA offers a comprehensive range of services aimed at promoting independence, health, and social engagement among older adults.

Core Services Offered by EBRCOA

• Information & Assistance: Trained care managers provide comprehensive assessments, answer questions, and offer referrals to appropriate services. This includes assistance with Medicaid applications, utility bill support, and access to donated medical supplies when available.
• Nutrition & Wellness:
  • Meals on Wheels: Home-delivered meals are provided to homebound seniors who are unable to prepare their own meals. Each meal meets dietary guidelines set by the Older Americans Act Nutrition Program.
  • Congregate Meals: Hot meals are served five days a week at 23 senior centers and feeding sites across the parish, offering seniors a chance to socialize and engage in various activities.
  • Lotus Food Pantry: A supermarket-style pantry offering essential items such as fresh produce, baked goods, canned goods, toiletries, and household items to seniors aged 60 and older.
• Transportation: Lotus Rides provides free, demand-response transportation services, ensuring seniors have access to medical appointments, senior centers, and agency events across the parish.
• Affordable Housing: EBRCOA offers affordable housing options, including the Lotus Village Senior Community, which provides 116 accessible housing units for seniors.
• Health & Wellness Programs: Seniors can participate in fitness classes such as aerobics, Tai Chi, water aerobics, line dancing, and yoga, promoting physical health and social interaction.
• Disaster Preparedness: Designated by the State of Louisiana, EBRCOA operates as the disaster preparedness arm for seniors during emergencies, ensuring their safety and well-being.
