The East Baton Rouge Metropolitan Council serves as the legislative branch for both the City of Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish in Louisiana. This council is composed of twelve members, each elected from single-member districts spanning city limits and parish ward lines.
Council members serve four-year terms, with the most recent elections held in the fall of 2024. The council's primary responsibilities include establishing policies, adopting annual budgets for city and parish general funds, and appointing members to various boards and commissions.
Additionally, the council oversees zoning policies and regulations to facilitate the continued growth and development of East Baton Rouge Parish.
Meeting Schedule
Regular Metropolitan Council meetings occur on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 4:00 pm. The council also holds Zoning Committee meetings on the third Wednesday each month at 4:00 pm to conduct public hearings and consider planning and zoning-related items.
All meetings are open to the public. Citizens are encouraged to participate by submitting electronic comments or speaking during public hearings.
