Douglas County School District (CO)

Douglas County School District (DCSD) is Colorado's third-largest school district, serving over 63,000 students from preschool through twelfth grade across an area of 850 square miles.

Established in 1958 through the consolidation of 17 smaller districts, DCSD encompasses all of Douglas County and parts of Elbert County.

The district operates 92 public schools, including traditional public schools, charter schools, and alternative education campuses.

These institutions offer a diverse range of educational programs, such as International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement courses, and specialized programs like STEM, Artful Learning, and Project-Based Learning.

DCSD also provides concurrent enrollment opportunities, allowing high school students to earn college credits, which saved local families over $10 million in tuition during the 2022-2023 academic year.

In recent years, DCSD has focused on addressing enrollment fluctuations by considering the consolidation of schools in areas with declining student populations, such as Highlands Ranch.
