Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance

Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance (DZCA), formerly known as the Denver Zoo, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to wildlife conservation and education. Established in 1896, DZCA is located in Denver's City Park, Colorado, and covers 80 acres. The organization houses over 2,500 animals representing more than 400 species from around the world.

DZCA's mission focuses on inspiring communities to save wildlife for future generations. Their commitment is reflected in extensive field conservation programs that have supported or participated in over 600 projects across 62 countries on six continents since 1996.

Conservation Efforts in Colorado

In Colorado, DZCA emphasizes protecting native species and habitats. They have played a key role in bison conservation, working with Denver Mountain Parks to restore bison populations and engage in cultural reconciliation with Native American tribes.

They also tackle human-wildlife conflicts involving bighorn sheep and mountain goats at Mount Blue Sky by implementing strategies to minimize interactions between wildlife and visitors.

International Conservation Initiatives

DZCA's international projects include partnerships in Uganda with Conservation Through Public Health to support mountain gorilla health and reduce human-wildlife conflicts. In Botswana, they established the first vulture restaurant to provide safe, lead-free food sources for endangered vultures.

In Peru, DZCA has successfully bred over 500 Lake Titicaca frogs, contributing significantly to the species' conservation.
