About Commander, Navy Installations
Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) is an Echelon II shore command of the United States Navy, responsible for the operation and management of all Navy shore installations worldwide. Reporting directly to the Chief of Naval Operations, CNIC serves as the Navy's shore integrator, designing and developing integrated solutions for the sustainment and development of Navy shore infrastructure.
Headquartered at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., CNIC oversees a vast network comprising 10 regions, 70 installations, and 123 Naval Operations Support Centers. This extensive structure enables CNIC to provide comprehensive support to the Navy's Fleet, Fighter, and Family. The organization's mission is encapsulated in its motto: "Sustaining the Fleet, Enabling the Fighter, Supporting the Family."
Fleet, Fighter, and Family Support
Fleet Support: CNIC ensures that all installation requirements necessary to train and operate the Fleets—such as ports, airfields, and training ranges—are maintained and ready, regardless of operational tempo.
Fighter Support: The command facilitates the manning, training, and equipping of the Navy's fighting force, ensuring installations are capable of supporting these critical functions.
Family Support: CNIC provides quality of life programs, including housing, Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) services, child care, and youth programs, to support the well-being of service members and their families.
CNIC's responsibilities encompass a wide range of services, including port operations, airfields, housing, fleet and family readiness programs, public safety, and environmental stewardship. By managing these diverse aspects, CNIC plays a pivotal role in maintaining the operational readiness and effectiveness of the U.S. Navy.
