About Colorado Chautauqua Association
The Colorado Chautauqua Association (CCA), established in 1898, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and enhancing the historic Chautauqua campus in Boulder, Colorado. Recognized as a National Historic Landmark, the Chautauqua is one of the few remaining Chautauquas in the United States that has continuously operated with its original structures intact.
Location
Located at the base of Boulder's iconic Flatirons, the Chautauqua encompasses a 26-acre campus featuring 82 historic buildings, including cottages, lodges, the Chautauqua Auditorium, Dining Hall, and the General Store.
These structures serve as venues for a variety of cultural, educational, and recreational activities, attracting over one million visitors annually.
Chautauqua Auditorium
The Chautauqua Auditorium, built in 1898, is renowned for its exceptional acoustics and has hosted a diverse array of performances, from classical music concerts to contemporary acts.
The annual Chautauqua Summer Concert Series, initiated in 1980, brings nationally recognized artists to this historic stage, continuing a tradition of live music that spans over a century.
Accommodations
Accommodations at the Chautauqua include a selection of historic cottages and lodges, each equipped with fully functional kitchens and many featuring private screened-in porches.
These lodging options provide guests with a unique opportunity to experience the charm of the early 20th century while enjoying modern comforts. The campus offers direct access to over 40 miles of hiking trails and thousands of acres of open space, making it a haven for outdoor enthusiasts.
Dining and Amenities
The Chautauqua Dining Hall, a Boulder favorite since 1898, serves fresh, farm-to-table Colorado bistro cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Guests can also visit the General Store for espresso, ice cream, and locally produced teas, as well as fresh, organic snacks and drinks for their hikes.
Commitment to Sustainability
In addition to its cultural and recreational offerings, the Chautauqua is committed to sustainability and resilience.
The CCA and the City of Boulder are developing a comprehensive Sustainability and Resilience Strategy to ensure the long-term preservation of this historic landmark amidst challenges such as climate change and increased wildfire risk.
