About Coast Guard Exchange
The Coast Guard Exchange (CGX) is a retail organization dedicated to serving the men and women of the United States Coast Guard, as well as other authorized patrons, by providing quality merchandise and services at competitive prices. Established in 1950, CGX operates as a non-appropriated fund entity, meaning it generates its own revenue without direct government funding.
This structure allows CGX to reinvest its profits back into the Coast Guard community, supporting the Morale, Well-being, and Recreation (MWR) programs that enhance the quality of life for service members and their families.
CGX offers a diverse range of products and services tailored to meet the needs of its patrons. Its portfolio includes 67 locations, featuring:
- Main Stores: Large, full-line CGX main stores that offer a merchandise assortment similar to department stores.
- CGX Marketplace Stores: Stores with a mix of grocery and discount items.
- CGXpress Convenience Stores: The bulk of the portfolio, comprising 40 CGXpress sites, these retail outlets can be found on Coast Guard bases throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.
In addition to traditional retail offerings, many CGX locations provide additional services such as barbershops, dry cleaning pick-up, and coffee bars. For example, the flagship store in Chesapeake, Virginia, recently opened a discount ticket counter that sells military-discount tickets for events and attractions.
CGX is committed to supporting the entire military community, including active duty and retired members of all branches of the armed services, their dependents, honorably discharged veterans, members of the reserves, Coast Guard Auxiliary, National Guard, Department of Defense, and Department of Homeland Security civil service employees.
This broad patronage ensures that a wide range of individuals can benefit from the services and products offered by CGX.
By providing quality products and services, CGX plays a vital role in enhancing the well-being and readiness of the Coast Guard community, ensuring that service members have access to the resources they need to perform their duties effectively.
