Overview

Christ United is a vibrant Methodist community located in Mobile, Alabama. It is dedicated to the mission of loving God, loving people, and changing the world. Established in 1979 by 12 families and founding pastor Jeff Spiller, the church has grown significantly.

It is now one of the largest Methodist congregations in southwest Alabama, with nearly 5,000 members. In November 2023, Christ United disaffiliated from the United Methodist Church, becoming an independent congregation. This change allows the church to focus solely on their mission without denominational distractions.

Worship Services

Christ United offers a variety of worship services to cater to different preferences:

• Sanctuary Worship: Traditional services featuring choirs, ensembles, hymns, and inspirational messages.
• NewSong Worship: Contemporary services with a high-energy praise and worship band using technology-driven elements.
• Kids Worship and Nursery: Programs for children from birth to 5th grade, including interactive worship, Bible stories, crafts, and prayer time.
• Students Worship: Dedicated services for 6th to 12th-grade students, offering energetic and inspirational worship experiences.
• JOY Worship: A monthly service for individuals with special needs and their families, providing an accessible and sensory-friendly environment.

Sunday School Classes

The church offers a wide range of Sunday School classes for adults, including:

• SOS for Women: For women of all ages and stages.
• Family Circus: For couples with children of all ages; features video-style studies and discussions.
• Journey in Faith: For older adults focusing on Bible and topical studies.
• Fellowship: For 55+ couples and singles emphasizing fellowship and Bible study.
• Racerunners: For 50+ adults studying the Bible through video and discussion.
• Seekers: Senior adults engaging in varied biblical studies.
• Faithbuilders: A lecture-style class for 40+ singles and couples focusing on Bible study and history.

Community Outreach and Ministries

Christ United is committed to serving the community through various ministries:

• Lifegate: Provides assistance for crises, including food bags, Thanksgiving baskets, utility bill help, free Bibles, prayer, and spiritual guidance.
• English as a Second Language (ESL) Program: Offers classes at basic, intermediate, and advanced levels with free childcare during sessions.
• C-Sports: Sports ministry with basketball and cheerleading for children from kindergarten through 6th grade, promoting physical activity and community engagement.
