Central Council Tlingit Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska

The Central Council of the Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska (CCTHITA) is a federally recognized tribal government representing over 38,000 Tlingit and Haida citizens worldwide. Established in 1935, the organization serves as a sovereign entity with a government-to-government relationship with the United States.

CCTHITA offers a comprehensive range of family-centered services aimed at promoting safe and stable families. These services assist individuals in attaining education and skills necessary for healthy lifestyles, meaningful careers, and engagement in traditional community activities.

• Public Safety: Village Public Safety Officer (VPSO) programs ensure community safety.
• Traditional Food Security: Initiatives to promote self-sufficiency through traditional food practices.

In addition to these services, CCTHITA operates a tribal court system to address legal matters within the community. Established in 2007, the court handles various cases, including child support and family services, and collaborates with state courts for certain cases.

Location and Presence

The organization maintains a strong presence in Southeast Alaska, with its headquarters located in Juneau.

It has expanded its reach to serve tribal citizens more effectively by opening offices in other locations including:

• Juneau, AK, USA
• Sacramento, CA, USA
• Anchorage, Alaska: Opened in February 2022, serving a growing number of tribal citizens.
• Lynnwood, Washington: Providing services to approximately 1,600 tribal citizens residing in Washington State.

Through these offices, CCTHITA continues to fulfill its mission of preserving sovereignty, enhancing economic and cultural resources, and promoting self-sufficiency and self-governance for its citizens.
