About Busboys and Poets
Busboys and Poets is a multifaceted establishment that seamlessly blends dining, literature, and community engagement. Founded in 2005 by artist and activist Andy Shallal, the original location at 14th and V Streets in Washington, D.C.'s U Street Corridor quickly became a cultural hub for artists, activists, writers, thinkers, and dreamers.
The name "Busboys and Poets" pays homage to American poet Langston Hughes, who worked as a busboy at the Wardman Park Hotel in the 1920s before gaining recognition as a poet.
