Bender's Tavern

Bender's Tavern, established in 1902, is a historic restaurant located in downtown Canton, Ohio. As Canton's oldest continuously operating restaurant, it offers a unique dining experience that combines rich history with exceptional cuisine.

The restaurant is housed in a Victorian-era building designed by renowned local architect Guy Tilden. The interior features ornate tin ceilings, original mosaic tile floors, mahogany woodwork, and an antique bar, all of which have remained largely unchanged since the early 1900s.

Bender's Tavern is renowned for its fresh seafood, delivered multiple times per week from the East Coast, always fresh, never frozen. Signature dishes include Camp Kagel Walleye, turtle soup prepared from a decade-old recipe, and Georges Bank sea scallops with sun-dried tomato beurre blanc.

The restaurant also boasts one of Ohio's most impressive wine cellars, housing rare vintages and exceptional selections to complement their timeless cuisine.

In addition to its culinary offerings, Bender's Tavern has played a significant role in Canton's history. It served as an informal meeting space during the formation of what became the National Football League (NFL).

The Jacob family has owned and operated Bender's Tavern since 1932, with each generation maintaining the restaurant's traditions and standards. Under their stewardship, the tavern has survived Prohibition, the Great Depression, and waves of economic and cultural change.
