About Behavioral Center of Michigan
The Behavioral Center of Michigan (BCOM) is a comprehensive psychiatric care facility dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate, and individualized treatment for adults aged 18 and older experiencing acute psychiatric conditions. Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, BCOM offers a range of inpatient and partial hospital programs designed to assist individuals in crisis and support their integration back into daily life routines.
Inpatient Psychiatric Programs
BCOM's acute inpatient care program is tailored for individuals requiring intensive psychiatric support. Patients typically reside in the facility for a period of 4 to 10 days, during which they receive comprehensive care from a multidisciplinary team.
This team includes psychiatrists, consulting physicians, psychologists, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, social workers, activity therapists, mental health technicians, and other support staff.
The program addresses a variety of disorders, such as mood disorders (e.g., depression), thought disorders (e.g., paranoia, delusions, hallucinations), severe sleep disorders, and substance abuse disorders. The primary goal is to promote personal independence and facilitate a smooth transition back to everyday life.
Partial Hospitalization and Day Treatment Programs
For individuals who do not require 24-hour inpatient care but still need structured support, BCOM offers partial hospitalization and day treatment programs.
These programs provide focused daily treatment from Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., in a less restrictive environment.
The day treatment program is housed in a 25-person unit adjacent to the main BCOM building and is overseen by credentialed psychiatrists. This approach ensures that patients receive the necessary care while maintaining a connection to their community and daily activities.
Crisis Intervention and Specialized Services
BCOM is equipped to handle crisis situations, offering immediate psychiatric assessments and interventions for individuals in acute distress. The facility also provides specialized services for dual diagnosis cases, addressing both psychiatric illnesses and substance abuse disorders.
Additionally, BCOM offers geriatric programs tailored to meet the unique needs of older adults facing mental health challenges.
Locations
BCOM operates two primary facilities in Michigan:
- Warren, MI: Offers a 42-bed inpatient psychiatric program.
- Detroit, MI: Provides a 55-bed inpatient psychiatric program.
Both locations are accredited by the Joint Commission, ensuring adherence to the highest national standards for safety and quality of care.
Patient-Centered Approach
BCOM is committed to enhancing the quality of life for individuals and their loved ones affected by mental health disorders. The facility emphasizes a patient-centered approach, developing individualized treatment plans based on the specific needs of each patient.
This approach is supported by a dedicated team of professionals who work collaboratively to provide comprehensive care in a safe and supportive environment.
