About Barbuto

Barbuto is a renowned Italian restaurant located in New York City's West Village, helmed by acclaimed Chef Jonathan Waxman. Established in 2004, Barbuto quickly became a neighborhood favorite, celebrated for its simple yet flavorful California-Italian cuisine.

The restaurant's name, meaning "bearded" in Italian, pays homage to Chef Waxman and his business partner's shared beards, as well as to Fabrizio Ferri's Irish Wolfhound, Gideon, who is immortalized in the restaurant's logo.

History and Locations

After a 15-year run, the original location at Washington and Jane Streets closed in May 2019 due to building ownership changes. However, Barbuto reopened in October 2021 at 113 Horatio Street, just a few blocks from its original spot.

The new space retains the restaurant's signature ambiance, featuring arched windows with views of the Hudson River and a wood-burning oven that adds to the industrial-chic decor.
