Atrium Health is a comprehensive, nonprofit healthcare system headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. It serves a vast region across North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama. The system includes 40 hospitals, over 30 urgent care centers, and more than 1,400 care locations.
The system offers a wide array of services, including top-ranked pediatric, cancer, and heart care, as well as organ transplants, burn treatments, and specialized musculoskeletal programs. Mergers and Expansion
In 2020, Atrium Health merged with Wake Forest Baptist Health, creating Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. This expanded its academic and research capabilities by integrating the Wake Forest School of Medicine and Wake Forest Innovations, which advances new medical technologies and biomedical discoveries.
In 2022, Atrium Health merged with Advocate Aurora Health to form Advocate Health, now the fifth-largest hospital system in the United States. This strategic merger aims to enhance healthcare delivery and innovation across a broader geographic area.
Innovation and Community Commitment
Atrium Health is a leader in virtual care and mobile medicine, providing services close to home and directly in patients' residences. The system demonstrates a strong commitment to community health, providing more than $2 billion annually in free and uncompensated care and community benefits.
Its dedication to innovation is also reflected in the development of "The Pearl", a new medical school campus and innovation district in Charlotte. This project seeks to transform the area into a hub for medical research and education, featuring advanced technologies and a focus on economic equity.
