The Atlanta Hawks are a professional basketball team based in Atlanta, Georgia, competing in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Southeast Division in the Eastern Conference.
Established in 1946, the franchise has undergone several relocations and name changes. It started as the Buffalo Bisons in Buffalo, New York, before becoming the Tri-Cities Blackhawks in Moline, Illinois.
In 1951, the team moved to Milwaukee, adopting the name Milwaukee Hawks, and then to St. Louis in 1955, where they secured their first and only NBA Championship in 1958. The Hawks relocated to Atlanta in 1968, where they have been based ever since.
