About Army Installation Management Command
The Army Installation Management Command (IMCOM) is a pivotal component of the United States Army, dedicated to the comprehensive management and operation of Army installations worldwide.
Established in October 2006, IMCOM's primary mission is to provide Soldiers, their Families, and civilian employees with a quality of life that reflects the Army's commitment to excellence.
Operating under the U.S. Army Materiel Command, IMCOM oversees 184 installations globally, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary infrastructure, facilities, and services to support military readiness and resilience.
This includes managing housing, public works, family support programs, and morale, welfare, and recreation services.
Regional Offices
IMCOM is organized into several regional offices, each responsible for specific geographic areas:
- Atlantic Region: Headquartered at Fort Eustis, Virginia, this region manages installations along the East Coast and in Puerto Rico.
- Central Region: Based at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, it oversees installations in the central United States.
- Pacific Region: Located at Fort Shafter in Honolulu, Hawaii, this region is responsible for installations in the Pacific, including Hawaii and South Korea.
- Europe Region: With its headquarters in Sembach, Germany, it manages installations across Europe.
- Korea Region: Previously headquartered at Yongsan Garrison in Seoul, South Korea, this region now operates under the Pacific Region.
Innovative Partnerships and Initiatives
In addition to its regional offices, IMCOM collaborates with various partners to enhance the quality and efficiency of its facilities.
For instance, in April 2022, IMCOM partnered with an Austin-based construction firm, ICON, to build 3D-printed barracks at Fort Bliss in West Texas.
These barracks, each spanning over 5,700 square feet, are among the largest 3D-printed structures in the Western Hemisphere.
They aim to demonstrate the efficiency of 3D printing in constructing energy-efficient, resilient buildings swiftly and cost-effectively.
Role and Impact
Through its extensive network and innovative initiatives, the Army Installation Management Command plays a crucial role in sustaining the operational readiness and well-being of the U.S. Army.
It ensures that Soldiers and their Families have the support and resources they need to succeed.
