Established in 1980 by Bill and T.J. Palmer in Decatur, Georgia, the first location was originally named T.J. Applebee's Rx for Edibles & Elixirs. The name was later simplified to Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar.

The restaurant's menu features a wide array of dishes, including salads, chicken, burgers, "riblets" (a signature dish), steaks, seafood, pasta, and a variety of appetizers and desserts.
