Job Description
Buckner Retirement Services is a distinguished not-for-profit, faith-based organization that operates a network of senior living communities throughout Texas. With over 60 years of dedicated experience in senior care, Buckner has established itself as a trusted provider of exceptional services designed to enhance the lives of older adults. The organization is committed to creating a vibrant, respectful environment that supports the unique needs of seniors, offering various levels of care including independent living, assisted living, and memory care. Recognized as a Great Place to Work across all its locations, Buckner emphasizes a workplace culture built on respect, inclusivity, and a shared dedication to enriching the lives of its residents. The organization values diversity and practices equal opportunity employment, ensuring fair treatment throughout the recruitment process without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
Located in Dallas, Texas, Ventana by Buckner is one of the community sites that exemplify Buckner’s mission to provide excellent care and hospitality. We are currently seeking a full-time Cook to join our culinary team, primarily working the evening shifts from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This role is key to maintaining our high standards for food quality and service, directly influencing the happiness and satisfaction of our residents through outstanding dining experiences. As a Cook, you will lead kitchen operations, manage food preparation from start to finish, and ensure that every plate served meets the robust standards set by our executive Chef. The position requires a hands-on leader who is not only skilled in scratch cooking and menu execution but also adept at training and supervising other kitchen staff, maintaining cleanliness, and enforcing food safety regulations.
In this role, you will prepare meals with fresh ingredients using standardized recipes, ensuring dishes are delicious, nutritious, and prepared to perfection, whether it involves steaks, fish, or therapeutic diet meals tailored to residents' health needs. You will monitor and evaluate food production quality, coordinate with the Food Service Director on cooking schedules, and maintain accurate meal documentation. The Cook's responsibilities extend beyond food prep to maintaining a hygienic working environment by leading cleaning protocols, enforcing sanitation standards, and organizing kitchen inventory. This position demands physical stamina, including the ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods and handle equipment and supplies of considerable weight. Importantly, the Cook will act as a vital part of our team, fostering strong working relationships and contributing to ongoing staff development through training and participation in regular meetings and in-service programs.
This role offers a meaningful opportunity to impact the well-being of seniors in a community that values quality, care, and respect. Joining Buckner means becoming part of an organization with a passion for senior living and a strong commitment to employee growth and satisfaction. If you have a background in restaurant cooking or similar culinary experience, and you thrive in a team-oriented, resident-focused environment, this position offers a fulfilling career path within a respected and mission-driven organization.
