The Hotel Manager role at Highgate Hotels is a comprehensive leadership position focused on steering the hotel towards achieving profitability through strategic revenue generation, stringent cost controls, outstanding guest satisfaction, and robust employee development programs. This full-time yearly position involves overseeing daily hotel operations, working closely with department heads, and engaging in all facets of the hotel lifecycle. One of the critical responsibilities is to foster a positive, team-oriented environment that aligns with Highgate’s standards of service excellence and compliance.

The Hotel Manager actively participates in sales initiatives by engaging directly with key clients and hosting events to strengthen relationships. In daily operations, this role requires meticulous oversight through regular tours of the hotel departments to ensure optimal staffing and performance. Weekly and monthly meetings with operational leadership focus on training, financial reviews, goal setting, and quality assurance, ensuring all departments remain aligned with business objectives and budgetary guidelines.

The role demands a hands-on approach to hotel management, including routine inspections of guest rooms, property maintenance, compliance with safety protocols, and managing payroll operations to minimize costs like overtime. The Hotel Manager also oversees the recruitment, training, and performance appraisal of management personnel, ensuring adherence to Highgate’s stringent standards and policies. Additionally, this position involves coordinating with corporate offices to meet financial reporting deadlines and participate in continuous improvement through corporate-sponsored training and certification.

Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • participate in hotel sales efforts including calling on top ten accounts meeting clients hosting luncheons and receptions and meeting with on-site contacts daily weekly and monthly
  • tour operating departments daily ensuring smooth operation and staffing in all areas adjusting as needed
  • conduct weekly staff meetings including training sessions and review of sales and operations efforts
  • conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with operational department heads to review training financials goals and performance
  • attend operational line ups weekly for housekeeping front desk culinary and banquets
  • meet all financial review dates and corporate directed programs on time
  • hold monthly financial review with department managers and supervisors
  • ensure department heads maintain budgeted productivity and accounting procedures
  • develop managers through competency and corporate training
  • participate in M.O.D coverage as scheduled
  • maintain and monitor effectiveness of Lobby Ambassador program
  • maintain contact and development of management trainees
  • adhere to company policies and train new managers
  • oversee and assist in budget and forecast processes
  • ensure training in service standards per company
  • ensure compliance with payroll procedures managing overtime and meal break penalties
  • ensure PCI compliance protocols followed
  • create positive team environment focused on guest experience
  • inspect rooms weekly with housekeeping and engineering managers
  • process invoices daily
  • ensure financial information submitted monthly to corporate
  • inspect property cleanliness and maintenance regularly
  • ensure employee attentiveness friendly courteous and efficient
  • forecast financial position monthly analyzing data to generate reforecast
  • conduct operational management interviews and hiring
  • perform department manager performance appraisals
  • motivate coach counsel and discipline management personnel
  • perform duties as requested by senior leadership
  • ensure fair and equitable treatment of employees
  • meet clients on property and assist sales efforts
  • greet guests during peak times providing assistance
  • ensure security and monthly audits of hotel safe
  • conduct monthly credit meetings and manage credit and collection policies
  • complete corporate training modules and train others
  • ensure all scheduled meetings occur
  • conduct daily WBR meetings with Director of Sales
