Job Description

Hyatt is a globally recognized hospitality company known for delivering exceptional guest experiences through its dedicated and attentive associates. At Hyatt, the focus is on exceeding high expectations by providing efficient service and creating meaningful moments for every guest. The company operates in a warm, respectful, and inclusive culture that values innovation, respect, service orientation, and inclusion. Hyatt’s mission is to be a leading hotel brand where talent is rewarded with exciting challenges and career advancement opportunities. Hyatt believes in fostering a culture where associates can shine and grow professionally within a supportive environment. This job opportunity is for an Executive Sous Chef, a critical leadership role within Hyatt’s culinary division. The Executive Sous Chef works directly with and in the absence of the Executive Chef to maintain and elevate the culinary operations of the hotel. This position requires overseeing the daily functions of the kitchen, demonstrating strong leadership by supporting and guiding the culinary team, and ensuring that every guest enjoys an exceptional dining experience. The Executive Sous Chef is responsible for managing kitchen employees through scheduling, payroll, training, coaching, and evaluating performance while maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety, and sanitation. In this role, the Executive Sous Chef acts as a liaison between the culinary department and other hotel departments to coordinate special events, holiday functions, and menu innovations that align with Hyatt’s brand standards. This leadership position involves close monitoring of food production, cost control, and consistency to meet financial goals. This professional will also supervise the steward team and maintain cleaning and sanitation protocols to comply with health regulations. Hyatt invests in the growth of Executive Sous Chefs by preparing them to advance to Executive Chef positions through comprehensive training across banquet, restaurant, and garde manger operations. The role requires proficiency in administrative duties such as payroll management, inventory control, procurement assistance, and maintaining precise documentation. The Executive Sous Chef position is a salaried role offering between $91,000 and $115,000 annually. Ideal candidates will bring five to ten years of experience in first-class restaurant kitchens, strong culinary and classical cuisine knowledge, leadership, organizational skills, and a commitment to guest satisfaction in a fast-paced hospitality environment. This role demands flexibility in scheduling, including weekends and holidays, and the ability to work in a unionized property is advantageous. Multilingual skills such as English, French, and Spanish proficiency are highly desirable. The position requires certifications like the NYC Department of Health Food Handling Certification and knowledge of OSHA standards. Overall, Hyatt offers a unique and rewarding career path where talented chefs can thrive in a culture of respect, innovation, and service excellence.
