Enterprise Community Partners is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to creating affordable housing and strengthening communities across the United States. Established in 1982 by developer and philanthropist James Rouse and his wife Patty, the organization has been instrumental in addressing the housing needs of low- and moderate-income families.

The organization's mission is to make home and community places of pride, power, and belonging, serving as platforms for resilience and upward mobility for all.

To achieve this, Enterprise Community Partners focuses on three primary goals:

  • Increase Housing Supply: By investing in and advocating for the preservation and production of affordable homes, the organization aims to meet the growing demand for housing among low-income families.
  • Advance Racial Equity: Recognizing the historical and systemic challenges faced by communities of color, Enterprise Community Partners centers racial equity in its work to dismantle discriminatory policies and practices in housing.
  • Build Resilience and Upward Mobility: The organization supports residents and strengthens communities to be resilient to the unpredictable, fostering environments that promote upward mobility and economic stability.

Since its inception, Enterprise Community Partners has invested over $80.9 billion and created more than 1 million homes across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This extensive reach underscores the organization's commitment to making home and community places of pride, power, and belonging.

In Northern California, the organization has been particularly active, helping to create or preserve over 32,963 affordable homes by leveraging more than $3.49 billion in capital. Their efforts include supporting developments like Vista de la Terraza in Salinas, which preserved 40 affordable homes for families and farmworkers, and San Juan Apartments in Sacramento, providing 113 affordable homes near public transportation.
