Job Description
Enterprise Community Partners is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to making affordable homes a reality for millions of families in need. Established in 1982, Enterprise has played a pivotal role in supporting community development organizations, investing capital for significant impact, influencing housing policy at various government levels, and building or managing communities across America. With investments totaling $92 billion and the creation of 1.1 million homes nationwide, including the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, Enterprise commits itself to making homes and communities places where pride, power, and belonging flourish.
Working at Enterprise means joining a dynamic and dedicated team striving to create lasting change every day. Employment is full-time and based in Washington, DC, where the Director of Policy Communications will hold a key leadership role within the growing national communications team. This position is responsible for spearheading communication strategies related to federal advocacy, policy development, and housing policy research, aiming to advance affordable housing access for millions.
The Director of Policy Communications is tasked with identifying priority communication goals, crafting compelling messages, managing media relations, and fostering relationships with key press contacts in Washington. As a central figure in the organization’s public and media engagement efforts, this role demands exceptional writing and strategic thinking skills. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with senior staff, helping secure interview opportunities, publish op-eds, and generate impactful storytelling initiatives that influence national housing policy debates.
The role requires not only leadership capability but also hands-on execution of communications plans, rapid response to emerging policy developments, and the ability to maintain and nurture journalist relationships. Partnership with internal marketing, digital teams, fundraising, events, coalition partners, and allies is crucial for broad-based advocacy success. The ideal candidate is both a skilled strategist and a talented, passionate writer dedicated to advancing the mission of affordable housing for underserved communities.
The salary range for this position is competitive, between $120,000 and $135,000 annually, with a comprehensive total rewards package that includes performance bonuses, generous paid leave, dental, health, and vision plans, family-building benefits, flexible work arrangements, and professional development opportunities. Enterprise values diversity, equity, and inclusion, and offers a supportive environment where employees are encouraged to grow and innovate in their careers.
