The Executive Chef role at OVG, located at the Palm Springs Convention Center, is a vital leadership position in the Culinary and Kitchen Management category. This position is full-time, regular, and offers an attractive annual salary range of $100,000 to $115,000, with eligibility for bonuses. The Executive Chef will oversee all culinary operations within this high-volume venue, managing a dedicated team of full-time and part-time culinary staff to ensure exceptional food quality, safety, and guest satisfaction. This role encompasses responsibility for menu development, event support, food cost control, and kitchen staff training and supervision. The Executive Chef will work closely with the General Manager and other departments to meet the company’s standards and operational objectives.
This leadership position requires a hands-on approach, including active participation alongside the culinary team to foster a positive and cooperative work environment. The Executive Chef is entrusted with significant authority over employment actions such as hiring, termination, and discipline, and must maintain excellent employee relations. A critical aspect of this role includes ensuring compliance with health, sanitation, safety, and labor regulations as well as managing kitchen equipment and inventory.
The position demands availability to work an event-driven schedule that includes evenings and weekends. The ideal candidate should exhibit a professional appearance, excellent interpersonal skills, and strong self-direction. Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
- minimum 5 years in kitchen management
- valid Food Handler’s card
- knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations
- excellent communication skills
- strong leadership and team management skills
- availability to work event-driven schedule including evenings and weekends
- ability to comply with uniform and safety policies
- proficiency in scheduling and inventory control software
- physical ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment

Job Qualifications
- 5-7 years of kitchen management experience in high-volume hotel, catering, or convention center
- proven track record of meeting budgeted food costs
- professional appearance and presentation
- proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook
- valid Food Handler’s card and alcohol service permit if applicable
- experience with employee scheduling in hospitality
- certified in a nationally recognized sanitation program
- strong knowledge of food preparation methods
- effective interpersonal skills with diverse personality types
- skilled in staff training, motivation, and coaching
- ability to delegate and prioritize tasks
- strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- attention to detail while managing multiple priorities
- able to work independently and collaboratively
- flexible availability for evenings, weekends, and extended hours
Job Duties
- Manage, develop, and mentor culinary staff including hiring, firing, and disciplining
- provide training and ongoing support to event staff
- promote positive and cooperative work environment
- enforce food cost controls including portion control and inventory management
- manage labor costs through efficient scheduling and employee development
- ensure quality, consistency, and presentation of all food products
- oversee menu development and recipe compliance
- supervise kitchen setup, prep, and break down activities
- coordinate kitchen equipment maintenance and operational readiness
- organize catered service delivery and setup
- conduct kitchen staff skills training and orientation
- maintain positive employee relations and compliance with regulations
- approve staff breaks and documentation
- maintain kitchen record keeping including inventories and invoicing
- manage staff scheduling and enforce uniform policy
- promote teamwork through communication and follow-through
- lead by example to maintain product and service quality
- oversee staff meal production and scheduling
