Job Description

The Power Plant Operator Maintenance Technician (OMT) position is based at the Nueces Bay Power Station located in Corpus Christi, Texas. This power station utilizes a 2x1 Combined Cycle plant configuration, among other advanced thermal generation technologies. The role involves operating, maintaining, and ensuring the safe and efficient performance of the power plant's equipment with a primary focus on water pretreatment and cooling water systems. This is a full-time role with rotating 12-hour shifts, integral to maintaining operational continuity.
The OMT plays a vital role as a first responder to operational events and equipment disruptions, troubleshooting and resolving issues within their technical expertise. The position requires consistent compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as plant safety protocols. The technician performs preventive maintenance, documents work activities, collaborates with maintenance teams, and uses Distributed Control Systems (DCS) for plant operations. This role demands not only technical skills but also strong communication, teamwork, and leadership capabilities to train other employees and support continuous improvement efforts.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- previous work experience in power plant operation or industrial maintenance
- must pass mechanical, reading and math aptitude tests
- strong math and mechanical/electrical aptitude
- ability to read and understand technical drawings and procedures
- excellent communication and team skills
- proficiency in Microsoft Office
- ability to work independently in a high-performance environment
- valid Class C Texas Driver's License
- dependable attendance
- ability to respond to callouts and overtime
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- previous work experience as a power plant operator or maintenance technician or equivalent industrial experience
- ability to read drawings, understand procedures and instructions for competent support of power plant operations
- proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook
- excellent communication and team skills
- strong aptitude in math, mechanical/electrical ability, and production control
- ability to work in a high-performance work environment and respond to callouts or overtime
- valid Class C Texas Driver's License
- preferred maintenance skills including electrical, mechanical or instrumentation experience
- preferred combined cycle power plant experience
Job Duties
- Operates, performs regular preventive maintenance, troubleshoots, tests and takes regular readings to maximize asset value
- serves as first responder to operational events and disruptions in the power plant and resolves issues within the technician's technical skillset
- documents complex issues and submits work notifications through the electronic work management system
- works with and assists maintenance technicians to resolve more complex plant issues
- uses distributed control systems (DCS) to operate power plant equipment, including water treatment systems, turbine controls and balance of plant equipment
- administers the lock-out/tag-out process and manages critical work processes including safe work permitting, hot work and confined space permitting
- executes and develops standard operating procedures to ensure consistent and safe operation of power plant equipment
- communicates with control room operator and management on any plant equipment issues
- supports other departments or vendors in troubleshooting equipment
- manages contractors performing work in area
- participates in operator training and continuing training
- manages preventive maintenance tasks and records preventive maintenance activities
- trains and develops other employees in preventive maintenance and routine equipment service activities
- practices situational leadership, safety and environmental stewardship
- leads equipment or system problem identification and recommends solutions
- ensures that appropriate safety procedures are followed
- performs other duties as directed by the Sr. Manager Plant Operations and Maintenance
- maintains dependable, reliable and predictable attendance
- possesses a valid in-state motor vehicle operator's license at all times
