The Senior Sous Chef position in New York, NY, offers an exciting opportunity for culinary professionals to advance their careers within a dynamic and high-volume corporate dining environment. With a competitive salary ranging from $80,000 to $85,000 per year, this role is eligible for an employee referral bonus, emphasizing the company’s commitment to building a talented and engaged team. The Senior Sous Chef supports the Executive Chef in overseeing the culinary department’s daily operations, managing menu development, food production, employee supervision, and quality control. This role is critical to maintaining the high standards expected by a premier corporate client that services cafeteria, catering, barista, and pantry operations.

Responsibilities include assisting with cost control measures and monitoring food, labor, and supply expenses to ensure financial efficiency and operational effectiveness. The Senior Sous Chef actively collaborates in menu planning and execution, ensuring consistent quality and presentation across all meals. Additionally, this role requires leadership in supervising and training union culinary staff, fostering compliance with labor agreements and organizational standards.

The Senior Sous Chef is also responsible for leading catering events and special programs, managing inventory and ordering, and supporting the introduction of new culinary programs in partnership with marketing and culinary teams. This role demands strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and health regulations while actively participating in customer satisfaction initiatives to ensure the premier client’s expectations are met and exceeded. The ideal candidate brings a mix of culinary artistry, operational aptitude, and leadership ability, backed by formal culinary education or equivalent experience.

Job Requirements

  • Education in culinary arts or related field
  • relevant kitchen management experience
  • experience in corporate dining and catering environments
  • ability to work in high-volume foodservice operations
  • familiarity with union labor agreements
  • strong food safety and sanitation knowledge
  • proficiency with computer software
  • ServSafe certification preferred

Job Qualifications

  • A.O.S. degree in Culinary Arts or a recognized culinary certificate with applicable experience
  • progressive culinary or kitchen management experience based on formal education or training
  • corporate dining and catering experience strongly preferred
  • experience working in high-volume, complex foodservice operations
  • prior experience in a union environment highly desirable
  • institutional and batch cooking experience a plus
  • strong knowledge of current food and catering trends with emphasis on quality, consistency, production efficiency, sanitation, food safety, food cost controls, and professional presentation
  • proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, email, and internet applications
  • ServSafe certification highly desirable

Job Duties

  • Assist the Executive Chef with overall management of culinary operations for a premier corporate account
  • support cost controls and monitor food, labor, and supply expenditures
  • collaborate on menu planning, development, and execution across multiple service platforms including cafeteria, catering, barista bars, and pantries
  • supervise, train, and support union hourly culinary associates ensuring adherence to labor agreements and company standards
  • prepare, cook, and present a wide variety of food items with attention to proper preparation, garnishment, and presentation
  • lead and execute catering events, meetings, and special programs
  • assist with ordering, inventory, and product utilization
  • support rollout of new culinary programs in partnership with marketing and culinary teams
  • ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
  • participate in client and customer satisfaction programs and initiatives
