Job Description
Marshall University is a prominent public comprehensive university located in downtown Huntington, West Virginia, with additional campuses across South Charleston, Point Pleasant, Teays Valley, and Beckley. Founded in 1837 and named after Chief Justice John Marshall, the university has a longstanding tradition of advancing public good through innovative, accredited educational programs. As one of West Virginia's oldest institutions of higher learning, Marshall University commits itself to providing a wide range of high quality, affordable, and accessible undergraduate, graduate, and professional education designed to prepare students to think critically, learn effectively, work efficiently, and live purposefully in an evolving global society. The university also embraces the importance of fostering understanding and appreciation for diversity in thought and culture, supporting vibrant intellectual and creative activities, and contributing positively to community, regional, and broader societal quality of life through applied research, economic development, healthcare, and cultural enrichment. Marshall University holds a firm dedication to cultivating an inclusive, just, and equitable community for all its members.
The Special Events Coordinator position at Marshall University plays a pivotal role within the Office of Recruitment by planning, organizing, and executing various key on-campus recruiting events. This full-time, exempt position is tailored to designing experiences that involve prospective students, their families, and broader campus visitors through events such as Admitted Student Day, Green and White Day Open House, Marshall Group Visits, and New Student Orientation. The role entails overseeing the parent and guest experience during new student orientations and collaborating extensively with campus partners and recruitment staff to develop innovative recruitment activities that span on-campus, off-campus, and virtual formats.
A critical aspect of the role involves managing Enrollment Management social media platforms by scheduling content through a strategic content calendar and drafting engaging posts that resonate with prospective students and their families. Supervision of student workers contributing to social media is integral, ensuring brand alignment and effective communication, alongside content oversight in partnership with the Director of Enrollment Management Marketing.
The Special Events Coordinator will also support the campus experience coordinator by organizing and staffing tour guides, conducting campus tours for various groups, and arranging private visits for prospective students. This includes monitoring and responding to inquiries via the recruitment email inbox to enhance the comprehensive visitor experience. The role requires proficiency in managing logistics for group visits, providing golf cart tours which requires completion of specific training, and occasionally performing duties during evenings or weekends. Limited travel may also be necessary.
The position offers a competitive salary range of $38,722 to $50,339, commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity, along with a robust benefits package that includes paid holidays, annual and sick leave, health insurance options, tuition benefits, retirement plans, life insurance, and wellness programs. Joining Marshall University means becoming part of a vibrant, supportive community that values excellence, inclusivity, and public service. The Special Events Coordinator is essential in shaping recruitment outreach that enhances the university’s mission and strengthens the university family experience.
