Job Description

Release Recovery is a pioneering organization dedicated to transforming the approach to Substance Use Disorder and Mental Illness through compassionate and holistic recovery programs. Based in New York City, Release Recovery operates residential facilities that provide safe, supportive environments for individuals working on their path to wellness and stability. The organization’s mission emphasizes dignity, community, and empowerment, striving to redefine recovery as a journey of gaining wellness and hope rather than loss. With a passionate, mission-driven team, Release Recovery fosters an inclusive culture where every member is valued and their contributions help create meaningful change in the lives of those they serve.

We are currently seeking a reliable, creative, and empathetic part-time Chef to join our NYC team. This is not just a kitchen role; it is an opportunity to nourish people in recovery, provide comfort through well-crafted meals, and be a consistent, positive presence throughout their healing journey. The Chef will collaborate closely with residential and support staff to plan and prepare delicious, nutritious, and balanced meals that cater to diverse dietary needs and preferences of our clients. In this role, you will oversee meal preparation for lunch and dinner, occasionally assisting with breakfast and weekend meal planning.

As part of your daily duties, you will manage grocery orders, maintain kitchen inventory and supplies, and coordinate with vendors and delivery services to ensure timely stock replenishment. Food safety and freshness are paramount; you will ensure all meals meet high standards of quality and hygiene. Maintaining kitchen cleanliness and organization is also vital to comply with health and safety regulations. Beyond cooking, you will occasionally support clients interested in learning kitchen skills, integrating this experience as a part of their recovery process.

Team collaboration is a key aspect of this role. You will work closely with the program director and operational staff to align meal services with program needs, adapting menus and schedules for house events, clients’ preferences, and seasonal availability. The position offers a unique blend of culinary art and compassionate care, requiring a confident, experienced cook or chef with a passion for nourishing others not only physically but emotionally and socially.

This opportunity comes with a competitive pay rate of $30 per hour and the chance to be part of a steady, supportive work environment with a stable schedule and no late-night shifts. By joining Release Recovery, you become part of a revolutionary mission to change societal perceptions and treatment of mental health and substance use challenges. Your work will have a direct impact on individuals’ lives, helping create an atmosphere where wellness, dignity, and community come first. If you are organized, dependable, emotionally intelligent, and motivated by meaningful work, this role at Release Recovery offers a fulfilling and impactful career path.
