The role available at Hotel Contessa is a leadership position responsible for overseeing the kitchen operations to ensure high standards of food quality and safety. This position requires planning and managing the kitchen staff in procurement, production, preparation, and presentation of all food served within the hotel’s restaurants and room service. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment, ensuring compliance with all health regulations, and achieving profitable operations through effective cost control. This role also involves direct human resources management duties like interviewing, hiring, training, and performance management to build and maintain a motivated and efficient team. The candidate will assist with menu creation and should be prepared to step into the Executive Chef’s role when needed. Job Requirements

  • Two+ years of post-high school education
  • Five+ years of experience in a related culinary or kitchen management role
  • Previous hotel culinary or kitchen experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to manage kitchen staff and operations efficiently
  • Proficient in labor and food cost management
  • Strong leadership and team development skills
  • Excellent communication abilities
  • Must adhere to attendance policies and be regularly available for work

Job Qualifications

  • Two+ years of post-high school education with culinary education preferred
  • Five+ years of employment in related position
  • Hotel experience preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of food profession principles and practices, including food and beverage management and associate management
  • Knowledge of hotel operations covering marketing plans, security, personnel and labor relations, business plans, repairs, maintenance, budget forecasting, quality assurance, hospitality law, and long-range planning
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate and develop staff and ensure goals achievement
  • Ability to work effectively under time constraints and deadlines
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills adaptable to different audiences

Job Duties

  • Manage the daily production, preparation, and presentation of all food for the hotel's restaurant(s) and room service to ensure a quality, consistent product
  • Manage human resources in production and preparation areas including interviewing, hiring, scheduling, training, developing, coaching, counseling, conducting performance and salary reviews, recommending discipline and termination
  • Schedule and manage maintenance and sanitation of kitchen, equipment, and related areas to ensure a safe work environment
  • Monitor, analyze and control all labor and food costs including preparation of reports, charts and schedules to meet budgets
  • Promote the Accident Prevention Program to minimize liabilities and expenses
  • Assist the Executive Chef with creation, costing and implementation of seasonal and special menus
  • Assume responsibilities of the Executive Chef in their absence
  • Comply with attendance rules and be available to work regularly
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
