The role of Sous Chef at Rooted Hospitality Group places you at the heart of the kitchen’s operations and leadership. As a Sous Chef, you will be responsible for upholding RHG's high standards in food quality, kitchen management, and team leadership. This is a leadership position within a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment where you will support operational excellence by overseeing daily kitchen activities and ensuring smooth service execution. Your role involves maintaining product consistency by adhering to established recipes and culinary techniques, managing inventory to control food costs, and supporting the Executive Chef in meeting financial objectives through strategic labor and cost oversight.

In this role, team leadership is paramount. You will act as a mentor to the kitchen staff, providing coaching, support, and constructive feedback to foster professional growth and skill development. Leading by example, you will demonstrate professionalism, positivity, and a steadfast commitment to culinary excellence. The Sous Chef will also have a key part in onboarding new team members and cultivating a cohesive, motivated kitchen team.

  • Oversee daily kitchen operations ensuring seamless execution during service
  • maintain the highest standards of food quality and consistency by adhering to recipes and techniques
  • assist in inventory management including ordering receiving and monitoring food costs
  • partner with the Executive Chef to track and meet financial goals through labor and cost controls
  • ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations including ServSafe and health department standards
  • act as a mentor to the kitchen team providing coaching and support to foster growth and skill development
  • lead by example demonstrating professionalism positivity and a commitment to excellence
  • assist in onboarding and training new team members to ensure seamless integration into the kitchens culture
  • manage team performance through constructive feedback fair evaluations and accountability
  • work collaboratively with the Executive Chef to create and refine menu items incorporating feedback and innovation
  • ensure proper execution of all dishes from prep to plating aligning with RHGs presentation standards
