Job Description

GHC (Greek House Chefs) is a reputable food service establishment specializing in providing high-quality culinary experiences primarily to Greek housing communities. Known for its commitment to excellence, cleanliness, and top-tier food service standards, GHC operates in an engaging and dynamic environment where health standards and food quality are paramount. The company prides itself on combining traditional culinary techniques with modern kitchen management, ensuring not only flavorful dishes but also safe, efficient kitchen operations.

The role of the Assistant Chef under the Executive Chef at GHC is a critical position designed to support the daily functions and overall management of kitchen activities. This position requires a dedicated individual who can assist with food preparation, seasoning, and cooking dishes, ensuring that every meal meets GHC's rigorous quality and freshness standards. In addition to routine cooking responsibilities, the Assistant Chef plays an essential role during the Executive Chef's absence, effectively managing kitchen operations, monitoring supplies, and maintaining order among kitchen staff.

This position emphasizes leadership qualities, as the Assistant Chef is tasked with providing guidance and supervision to junior kitchen staff, ensuring that all food preparation and presentation align with the company’s standards. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation to exceed health regulations is a top priority. The Assistant Chef is also responsible for overseeing stock management, ensuring proper food rotation to minimize waste and guarantee quality for every dish served.

In practical terms, the Assistant Chef will frequently monitor the kitchen environment by conducting regular inspections, tracking food safety compliance, and keeping service lines adequately stocked, especially during peak operation hours. The role involves close collaboration with the Executive Chef to maintain the kitchen organization, facilitate staff training opportunities, and enhance operational efficiency. The Assistant Chef is expected to uphold a professional appearance and demeanor, consistently wearing the GHC blue embroidered chef coat while on duty to represent the company’s commitment to professionalism.

Working at GHC requires flexibility and commitment, especially as the Assistant Chef must be available for up to three special events per semester, where the presence of all chefs is mandatory. The successful candidate will also need strong communication skills to effectively relay client feedback and maintain good relationships with vendors and customers. The job involves receiving deliveries and verifying the quality and quantity of goods in adherence to company standards.

Additionally, the Assistant Chef must be adept at using various commercial kitchen tools and technology, including commercial blenders, broilers, convection ovens, and inventory management software. Physical stamina and the ability to work effectively under pressure are essential, given the demanding nature of the role that includes standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 pounds.

In summary, this role offers a valuable opportunity for culinary professionals looking to develop leadership skills in a structured kitchen environment, contributing directly to the exceptional food service experience that GHC is known for. It is suited for candidates who are passionate about food quality, operational excellence, and teamwork within a professional kitchen setting.
