Job Requirements

  • Culinary degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum three years of experience as a chef
  • Ability to supervise and train kitchen assistants
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours including weekends and holidays
  • Physical ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to complete paperwork neatly and legibly
  • Ability or willingness to learn to use information and communication technologies
  • Ability to respond to emergencies calmly
  • P.R./First Aid certification preferred

  • Experience working with chemically-dependent adults preferred
  • Proficiency in a second language strongly desired

Job Qualifications

  • Knowledge of issues affecting chemically-dependent adults preferred
  • Excellent supervisory and team collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of safe and sanitary food handling procedures
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform volume cooking tasks
  • Strong interpersonal, listening, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and set boundaries
  • Ability to respond calmly to emergencies and high-pressure situations
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours including weekends and holidays
  • Proficiency in using computers and communication technologies
  • Ability to remain awake and alert during shifts
  • P.R./First Aid certification preferred with completion within three months of hire
  • Experience in non-profit or social service sectors with homeless or impoverished populations desired
  • Proficiency in a second language strongly desired (Spanish, Mandarin, Tagalog, Cantonese)

Job Duties

  • Assist with the training and supervision of kitchen assistants and dishwashers
  • Provide timely and regular feedback on staff performance
  • Ensure staff demonstrate professionalism and good customer service
  • Facilitate team huddles for staff as needed
  • Complete reports and paperwork thoroughly and legibly
  • Enter data electronically and retrieve reports as required
  • Understand and follow organizational programs, policies, and procedures
  • Participate in training and development opportunities
  • Prepare nutritious, tasty, and well-presented meals for residents and staff
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen work areas and equipment
  • Ensure compliance with sanitary food handling and stock rotation procedures
  • Assist with menu development, planning, and ordering
  • Monitor kitchen supply usage and maintain accurate records
  • Facilitate a safe kitchen environment by observing health and safety procedures
  • Participate in meetings to support team communication and program goals
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve success
  • Manage stress and pressure situations calmly
  • Demonstrate integrity and respectful communication with colleagues
  • Support cooperation among coworkers, management, and community members
