Established with a dedication to fostering meaningful and purpose-driven lives, Riverdale combines a strong commitment to academic excellence with a nurturing and inclusive community. The school nurtures a vibrant environment where critical thinking, curiosity, and interdisciplinary learning are encouraged among its diverse student body. With about 1,300 students representing 117 different zip codes and 48 percent identifying as students of color, Riverdale continually fosters a culture of inclusion and belonging that enriches the educational experience for all members of its community.
Riverdale Country School is driven by a mission to develop lifelong learners who not only excel academically but also build character and a sense of community. The school seeks educators and leaders who are passionate about fostering student-centered learning, embracing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB), and supporting the growth of the entire school community. At Riverdale, collaboration and a shared commitment to high standards and student engagement are essential to the school's success and welcoming culture.
The role of Sous Chef at Riverdale Country School is a full-time, exempt position that offers an opportunity to work directly under the Assistant Culinary Director and Culinary Director. This role involves supervising the culinary team in the preparation and cooking of food items for daily service as well as special events held at the school. The Sous Chef is instrumental in facilitating and cultivating a farm-to-table food philosophy, supporting the structure and organization of the culinary program, and ensuring the highest quality of food and service is delivered consistently.
Ideal candidates will possess strong leadership and communication skills, the ability to work strategically and collaboratively within a dynamic team environment, and a commitment to maintaining the standards set forth by the school and regulatory entities. The position demands a professional who can interact effectively with a diverse group of students, parents, faculty, and vendors, while upholding health and safety standards and contributing meaningfully to the culinary culture at Riverdale.
The Sous Chef will ensure menu execution meets quantity and quality standards, create daily work plans for kitchen staff, provide mentorship and training, and maintain food safety and sanitation protocols. They will also serve as a liaison between the culinary team and management, monitor food inventory and ordering, and support various operational tasks as needed.
Riverdale values continuous professional development and offers a generous benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement contributions, transportation shuttles, professional development funds, sabbaticals, and stipends for enrichment activities. Working at Riverdale means joining a purposeful and meaningful community dedicated to inspiring students and staff alike to thrive in mind, character, and community while making a positive impact on the world.
