Job Description
The View is New York City’s only revolving restaurant, bar, and lounge, proudly led by Danny Meyer’s esteemed Union Square Hospitality Group since 2025. Following a complete renovation by the Rockwell Group, the venue captures the essence of vibrant nightlife inspired by historic New York, paying homage to classic American supper clubs. Situated in the heart of the theater district, The View occupies two floors, offering guests a lively bar atmosphere and a full-service dining room that is constantly in motion. This unique setting enables a dynamic experience that blends live music, classic American cuisine, and panoramic skyline views, imbuing the space with the theatrical energy synonymous with its vibrant surroundings.
The role of Sommelier at The View is a vital position within the restaurant’s dedicated Service team, focusing on delivering an exceptional wine and beverage experience that complements the venue’s high standards of hospitality. Serving as a trusted partner to fellow sommeliers, bartenders, and service staff, the Sommelier acts as an extension of the Beverage Director, supporting the operation and creativity of the wine and beverage program. This role centers on enhancing guest satisfaction by offering expert guidance on beverage selections, ensuring an enticing and financially sound wine list, and educating the entire service team on varied beverage options, including wine, beer, spirits, cocktails, and non-alcoholic drinks.
A Sommelier at The View embodies the spirit of Enlightened Hospitality, contributing to a culture where care, creativity, and growth are at the forefront. With a strong emphasis on flexibility, skill diversity, and continuous learning, the Sommelier helps maintain the restaurant’s reputation for excellence. The position offers competitive hourly pay starting at $14.50 plus tips and benefits including comprehensive health coverage, paid time off, a matched 401(k) plan, life insurance, and generous dining discounts. The View also supports its team members with additional perks like next-day access to earnings, pre-tax commuter benefits, employee assistance programs, and access to wellness services and emergency relief funds.
By joining The View, Sommelier candidates become part of a well-established group under Union Square Hospitality Group, known for putting Enlightened Hospitality into practice. This means working in a collaborative environment that promotes six core behaviors: playing to win with humble swagger, connecting the dots to build relationships, committing to excellence, embracing mistakes as learning opportunities, assuming generosity in interactions, and taking responsibility for one’s impact. These guiding principles cultivate a workplace where each team member feels valued and empowered to contribute to the guest experience and the continued success of the venue.
As a Sommelier, the successful candidate will not only bring deep knowledge of wine and other beverages but will also thrive in a fast-paced, theatrical environment that demands creativity, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to deliver consistently outstanding service. The View encourages candidates who are passionate about hospitality and eager to grow their expertise in beverage service to apply and help create unforgettable experiences for their guests in one of New York City’s most iconic dining destinations.
