Job Description

Turner Construction Company is a leading global construction services company known for its commitment to safety, quality, and innovation in the construction industry. Established to deliver complex projects that shape the built environment, Turner operates across diverse sectors including commercial, residential, healthcare, and infrastructure. The company places a high priority on Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) and integrates sustainable practices and rigorous safety programs into its project execution strategy. With a robust global presence and a reputation for operational excellence, Turner fosters a culture of teamwork, leadership, and continuous improvement. This commitment ensures client satisfaction, employee well-being, and regulatory compliance at every project phase.

The Site Safety Manager role within Turner Construction Company is a critical position dedicated to overseeing EH&S practices on a designated construction project within a specific business unit’s geographic area. This role demands a proactive leader who will partner closely with Environmental Health & Safety teams and project leaders to enforce adherence to company policies, EH&S programs, and regulatory mandates. The selected candidate will act as a safety champion from project inception through completion, ensuring the safety of all personnel while mitigating risks inherent in construction environments.

The role involves comprehensive management and coordination of site safety efforts, including training project teams in safe work practices, monitoring compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations, and fostering a culture of continuous safety improvement. As a Site Safety Manager, the individual will lead the development of project-specific safety programs, conduct safety audits, and engage subcontractors in preconstruction safety planning to ensure alignment with contractual and regulatory safety requirements. A key responsibility includes maintaining zero regulatory citations by managing exposures and effectively communicating performance expectations to project leadership and staff.

Candidates for this role must possess a current New York City Department of Buildings (NYC DOB) Site Safety Manager License and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of four years of construction safety experience is required, along with certifications such as Construction Health Safety Technician (CHST) and OSHA 30-hour training. This position demands a high level of organizational, analytical, and communication skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage complex safety risks, and deliver effective training programs.

Turner Construction Company offers a competitive salary range for this position ranging from $126,000 to $196,000 annually, reflecting the importance and seniority of the role. The company also emphasizes a safe and inclusive work environment, providing reasonable accommodations to support individuals with disabilities. The physical and environmental demands of this position necessitate mobility and endurance typical of construction site work, including climbing ladders, navigating various terrains, and handling equipment safely.

The Site Safety Manager at Turner Construction plays a vital role in promoting safe work conditions, adhering to rigorous EH&S standards, and ensuring that every project aligns with Turner’s commitment to safety excellence. Individuals in this role will find opportunities to grow professionally while contributing meaningfully to landmark construction projects in New York City and the surrounding area, underpinned by a collaborative and supportive corporate culture.
