Job Requirements

  • Must meet state specific guidelines
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Relevant experience in licensed childcare kitchen, commercial kitchen or public school cafeteria
  • Food service or food handler’s permit or license as per state and local regulations
  • Compliance with state and federal health, safety and immunization guidelines
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to maintain mental and physical alertness
  • Must be at least 18 years old

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Relevant experience in licensed childcare kitchen, commercial kitchen or public school cafeteria
  • Food service or food handler’s permit or license as per state and local regulations

  • Proven judgment in identifying and addressing potential childcare risks
  • Ability to ensure children’s safety and meet their everyday needs including feeding and grooming
  • Ability to foster social skills such as communication and conflict resolution
  • Exhibit patience, composure and professionalism at all times
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 40 pounds and perform varied physical tasks

Job Duties

  • Plan, post and follow approved nutritionally sound menus with alternate substitutions as needed
  • Keep accurate inventory records and place food orders within the center food budget
  • Chop, cut, prepare and serve food in appropriate amounts and temperatures
  • Maintain safe storage for food, cooking supplies, equipment and cleaning supplies following regulations
  • Keep accurate meal and snack count records as per CACFP guidelines where applicable
  • Follow all local health, safety and hygiene procedures including sanitation of dishes and equipment
  • Clean kitchen appliances, counters, floors and trash receptacles regularly
  • Understand and execute emergency procedures
  • Maintain positive working relationships with staff, parents and licensing authorities
  • Provide ongoing customer service to parents
  • Handle routine situations with good judgment and a positive attitude
  • Assist in classrooms with children and other duties as assigned
  • Responsible for food shopping as needed
