Job Description

Red Rabbit is a well-established MWBE-certified K-12 school food management company founded in 2005, committed to transforming school dining across urban communities. Focused on dignity, representation, and opportunity, Red Rabbit believes that serving diverse, high-quality meals to children is about more than just food. Their approach centers on preparing scratch-made, culturally relevant meals that honor the heritage and lived experiences of the students they serve. Operating commissaries and onsite kitchens within schools, Red Rabbit prepares millions of meals annually across the Greater New York region, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. The company is deeply embedded in the school communities it serves, providing not only nourishment but also connection and care through food. Red Rabbit operates with inclusivity as a core value, offering equal employment opportunities to all qualified applicants regardless of age, race, creed, color, national origin, ancestry, marital status, or sexual orientation.

The Prep Cook/Porter role at Red Rabbit is an essential part of the commissary kitchen team, directly contributing to the preparation, packaging, and distribution of fresh, culturally relevant meals to students across partner schools. This full-time position offers stable, consistent hours with day shifts from Monday to Friday between 6:00 AM and 2:00 PM, including weekends and holidays off, ensuring a healthy work-life balance. The typical pay range for this role is $18.50 to $19.50 per hour. The successful candidate will demonstrate reliability, a "can-do" attitude, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment.

Critical to success in this role is familiarity with daily production menus and the ability to cook scratch-made dishes that meet Red Rabbit’s standards and Department of Health regulations. The Prep Cook/Porter supports kitchen operations by collaborating with the team to prioritize menu item production, uphold rigorous standards of cleanliness exceeding DOH requirements, and handle food safely from cooking through serving, packaging, and distribution. Additional responsibilities include washing and sanitizing dishes, utensils, and equipment, maintaining organized dish areas, and accurately recording food production to minimize waste. Physical capabilities such as lifting over 50 pounds and standing for extended periods are required.

By joining Red Rabbit as a Prep Cook/Porter, candidates contribute to a mission-driven organization passionate about improving nutrition and health in schools. The role not only provides a chance to refine culinary skills in a supportive team environment but also offers opportunities for professional development, education reimbursement, and attractive benefits such as health, dental, vision insurance, 401k options, and generous paid time off. Red Rabbit welcomes individuals who share their passion for food, community, and making a daily impact through quality school meals.
