The Prep Cook works closely with the head chef and kitchen team to provide high-quality food preparation essential for operational success.

As a Prep Cook, you will be responsible for supporting daily culinary operations by prepping vegetables, proteins, and other ingredients according to recipe guidelines and portions. Maintaining food safety standards and cleanliness in preparation areas are critical components of this role. You will assist with receiving and storing food deliveries properly, set up and break down workstations for each shift, and collaborate with colleagues to adapt to menu changes or special event needs. This role also involves cleaning kitchen equipment and utensils to ensure hygiene standards are met at all times. The dynamic nature of the performing arts schedule means hours vary depending on performance times, requiring flexibility and the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Job Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Available to work evenings weekends and holidays
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to lift trays plates and food orders weighing up to 25 pounds and move quickly and efficiently in a busy environment
  • Comfortable working in a hot fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Previous experience in a prep cook or kitchen role is preferred but not required
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic

Job Duties

  • Prepare and chop ingredients for daily menu items including vegetables proteins and other items as directed by the head chef or kitchen supervisor
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep areas ensuring food safety standards are adhered to
  • Follow recipes and portion controls to ensure consistency and quality in food preparation
  • Assist in the receiving and storing of food deliveries ensuring items are stored correctly and labeled
  • Set up and break down workstations at the beginning and end of each shift
  • Collaborate with the kitchen team to meet prep needs and adapt to special menu items or changes
  • Assist with cleaning kitchen equipment utensils and surfaces during and after shifts
  • Other duties as assigned
