The Phipps Houses Group of Companies and Phipps Neighborhoods are renowned organizations committed to providing quality residential living environments with a strong focus on integrity, excellence, and diversity among its employees. With decades of experience in affordable housing development, management, and community services, Phipps Houses has continually demonstrated a commitment to enriching the lives of residents and fostering thriving neighborhoods in New York City and beyond. These organizations are dedicated to equal employment opportunities and extend consideration to all qualified applicants regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, age, or any protected characteristic under the law. The newest development in East New York represents Phipps’ ongoing mission to create safe, comfortable, and well-maintained housing communities that meet the evolving needs of residents.
We are currently seeking motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Porter/Concierge at this new residential development located in East New York. This hybrid role involves working four days per week as a Porter and one day per week as a Concierge, with potential to transition into a full-time Concierge position as the staffing needs grow. The dual role requires flexibility, teamwork, and a strong commitment to maintaining a clean, secure, and welcoming environment for residents and guests alike.
As a Porter, the successful candidate will be responsible for general maintenance and cleanliness tasks, ensuring all common areas, including hallways, lobbies, elevators, stairways, and restrooms, meet high standards of cleanliness and safety. Duties will include polishing fixtures, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning windows, replenishing supplies, and maintaining the compactor room. Seasonal duties such as snow removal and walkway clearing will also be part of the routine. Attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment are essential. The Porter role is critical to the community’s upkeep and resident satisfaction.
In the Concierge capacity, the candidate will act as the primary point of contact for residents and visitors, maintaining a professional demeanor and excellent communication skills. Responsibilities include managing building access and security, monitoring security cameras, screening visitors, assisting with package retrieval, and maintaining the package room. The Concierge serves as an ambassador for the building, handling work orders, supporting the management team, and delivering excellent customer service. Experience in customer relations, familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, and prior concierge or custodial experience are preferred qualifications.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to advance their career in property management or building services within a respected organization committed to professional growth and development. Casual and collaborative work environment combined with the chance to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic community setting. Candidates must demonstrate flexibility, strong ethic, and ability to work cooperatively with management and fellow staff members. We encourage applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds as part of our commitment to inclusive excellence and community-oriented service.
