Since its inception in 1955, PHS has grown into one of the largest nonprofit senior housing and services providers in the United States, operating 60 affiliated senior living communities across Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin. With a workforce of around 8,000 employees, PHS serves more than 41,800 older adults, providing them with opportunities to maintain their independence, engage in purposeful living, and enjoy overall well-being. In addition to housing and care, PHS co-owns Genevive, the largest geriatric primary care practice in Minnesota, which delivers comprehensive care to over 15,500 older adults. PHS is widely recognized as an innovative leader committed to enhancing the quality of life for its residents and customers by promoting compassionate service and community engagement.
Avalon Square, located in Waukesha, Wisconsin, is one of the vibrant communities under the PHS umbrella. This community offers a welcoming environment where residents, staff, families, volunteers, and friends come together to foster a lively, inclusive, and supportive atmosphere. Avalon Square provides services such as assisted living and assisted living with memory care, catering to the diverse needs of its senior residents. Employees at Avalon Square benefit from amenities like access to local bus routes, off-street parking, discounted employee meals, and free access to the community fitness center.
The role of Nutrition & Culinary Services Supervisor at Avalon Square is a pivotal position responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality meals and dining experiences to residents and customers. The supervisor leads by example, supervising and training nutrition and culinary services staff, participating directly in meal preparation and service, and ensuring all activities align with relevant regulations, policies, procedures, and best practices. This full-time position offers a salary range between $24.45 and $25.82 per hour and includes a rotating schedule with shifts typically from 10:30 am to 7:00 pm during the week, every other weekend from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, and occasional holiday rotations.
Reporting directly to the Nutrition & Culinary Services Director and sometimes taking direction from the Assistant Director, the Nutrition & Culinary Services Supervisor oversees cooks, chefs, servers, and lead servers assigned to the site. The supervisor’s responsibilities include managing meal preparation and service according to established menus and regulatory standards, maintaining serving staff schedules and assignments, soliciting and integrating customer feedback to improve meal quality and satisfaction, assisting in menu planning, and ensuring accurate meal documentation is maintained. Additionally, the supervisor helps with cleaning equipment and work areas and participates in resident care conferences as assigned.
This role requires excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills, as well as a thorough understanding of food service operations, safety, and hygiene standards. The ideal candidate will have experience in food service settings such as restaurants, health care, or senior services and possesses certifications like Serve Safe and, preferably, Certified Dietary Manager credentials. Computer literacy and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively are also essential for success in this position.
Joining Avalon Square means becoming part of a community that values teamwork, respect, and a commitment to excellence in senior care. The organization offers a robust benefits package to eligible employees, including health and dental insurance with Health Savings Account (HSA) contributions, life insurance, retirement plans with employer matching, paid holidays, and extended sick leave. Part-time employees may also access vision insurance, disability insurance, accident coverage, and education assistance, alongside benefits available to all employees such as paid time off, same-day pay, employee assistance programs, educational discounts, and mental health resources.
