Job Description
Austin Proper Hotel stands as one of the most celebrated urban luxury hotels in the United States. Recognized with a prestigious Michelin Key and Forbes Four-Star ratings, the hotel is ranked among the Top 500 Hotels in the World. Situated in the vibrant Second Street District of Austin, Texas, Austin Proper offers an unparalleled guest experience across 238 exquisitely designed rooms and suites, most with sweeping views of the city skyline and Lady Bird Lake. The property boasts a Forbes Four-Star spa called Verbena, acclaimed dining outlets including award-winning restaurants and bars, and a rooftop pool deck. With an annual revenue exceeding $32 million from its food and beverage program and a total portfolio revenue surpassing $72 million, Austin Proper leads its competitive set boasting the highest revenue per available room (RevPAR). It serves as the flagship property of the Proper Hospitality portfolio, making it a beacon of luxury and sophistication in the heart of Austin.
The role of General Manager at Austin Proper Hotel is a key leadership position responsible for steering the strategic, operational, and cultural direction of this eminent property. The General Manager will position Austin Proper as the preeminent luxury destination in the region while maintaining its status as a flagship within the Proper Hospitality family. This role demands a seasoned hospitality executive with extensive expertise in luxury hotel management, award-winning food and beverage operations, immersive wellness programming, exclusive membership models, and delivering truly high-touch guest experiences.
Proper Hotels embraces technology as a foundation of its success; it is an AI-first organization where innovative AI tools are integrated across all aspects of hotel operations including revenue management, guest communications, F&B forecasting, people management, and financial controls. The General Manager is expected to champion this approach by actively promoting AI adoption and embedding intelligent technology deeply within the organizational culture and day-to-day activities. Exceptional financial performance, a strong leadership team, and guest satisfaction reflecting the refined, design-forward, and culturally rich ethos of Proper are core responsibilities.
The General Manager will oversee a complex $72 million multi-revenue operation including rooms, food and beverage, spa and wellness, membership, and events. Responsibilities include defining long-term business strategy, maintaining Forbes Four-Star and Michelin Key standards, optimizing financial outcomes through revenue management and budget leadership, and building a vibrant membership community via the members-only Proper Club. This position requires an executive who is a visionary leader with commercial acumen, cultural sophistication, and a passion for innovation and community building.
Austin Proper is not just a hotel but a cultural landmark that exemplifies modern luxury hospitality infused with Austin’s creative spirit. Joining the Proper Hospitality team means becoming part of a community committed to care, excellence, creativity, and authenticity, supported by a best-in-class work culture and opportunities for professional growth.
